This is the first part of a longer oneshot (not the first of many chapters), posted now because it is written for the tamingthemuse prompt Chiwara, the closing date for which is Sat 13th December. I am about to go away for the weekend (YES I WILL BE MISSING THE FINALE! I will watch it on iplayer on Monday *sob*)

As such, this fic will not be posted to the Merlin comms until I've written the second part too.

I have stolen all sorts of bits of customs from all over the place to create this festival. It's about as historically accurate as, well, the show. And yes, the historian in me is hugely ashamed. Please forgive me.

Ok, this is how it works: The player (me) must list 3 things that I would love to get for Christmas. Then I must list 3 things that I definitely do not want to get for Christmas. Then I tag 5 friends and list their names. The people I tag need to write on their LJ about their Christmas wishes then tag 5 more people.

What I want for Christmas:
1. Inspiration for the module 2 assessment. Or just motivation to get it done.
2. Someone to write a fic exploring Merlin's magic, and why sometimes he needs to use words, but sometimes he doesn't.
3. Someone to volunteer to make pretty banners/cover art for my fics/fics yet to come

What I don't want for Christmas:
1. Merlin to be cancelled
2. To spend the entire two weeks at home worrying about point 1 above.
3. To put on weight.

No, this does not mean there will be fic - I have 4.5 seasons still to watch! But it does mean I will begin to better understand your fics!

Ugh, it has not been a productive week. RL really got in the way of writing. I'm going to be away over the weekend too, so tonight I really need to post something to fulfill this week's Taming the Muse prompt.

I'm not very good at just using the word in the fic, I've started trying to make it a central idea, a main concept in the story itself. And so, when I saw the fic this week, there was really only one fandom I could write in. Despite adoring them to pieces, I've never written in this fandom before, and to be honest I don't think this begins to do it justice. So maybe, sometime in the future, I will re-immerse myself in the canon and write something that does begin to express how I feel about these books. For now, there's just this.

Right, I've been dithering for ages about this and I think I've decided that I'm not going to attempt NaNo this year.

I am intending to keep writing through November, but trying to commit to 50k while doing the degree is just silly. And there will always be other years.

So, expect more of the same from me, while everyone else is off doing their novels. :)

This crazy, wonderful, creative, beautiful man is 50 today.
