And so, because I have nothing against the woman (except the whole wanting to fuck her husband thing), and because he loves her so very much:

jenlynn820's journal. Posted because I thought they looked sweet. And because I'm perfectly happy to accept her. Weird how things like that work huh?
And even more weird that I don't see this and the pic two posts down as mutually exclusive. Just like I like Eric/Orlando although my OTP is Viggo/Orlando. Doesn't work, does it?

All slash pairings are imaginary. Therefore it doesn't matter if Eric is married or if Viggo is straight or if Orlando is about to get married to Kate or if Sean is currently looking for wife number four.
Because we are making it all up. Writing this stuff doesn't make it real. Fanfiction is not voodoo. There are an infinite number of OTPs because our fantasies are limited only by our imaginations.
We never have to justify what pairings we like. We like them because something about them makes us happy or horny or sappy or silly. What any of these people do in real life has nothing to do with our thoroughly enjoyable fantasies.
Except for Hoot and Todd, of course. They are entirely real.
Sorry to get philosophical on you. Seeing
P.S. It excites me strangely to see how huge his hands are on her. *g*

Date: 2004-05-18 04:59 am (UTC)Exactly. I still find it strange though. (oh, and Sean...*waves*) I mean, I find it strange that we love 'evidence' like the photographs, although we know it isn't real. And yet we continually contruct arguments to counter what we know is the truth. I guess it just struck me how weird that is.

You don't want to know that that just gave me an Eric/Orlando/Rebecca bunny. What is it with me liking guys with other guys' women? Hector/Helen, Viggo/Kate...

Date: 2004-05-18 10:55 am (UTC)For me, photos are fun to look at, is all. I've never seen them as "evidence" of anything. Just a snapshot of a scene from my imagination. Maybe that's why they go over so well. We've dreamed of the hug, and then we see it, and it's like magic. *sighs happily*
And yet we continually contruct arguments to counter what we know is the truth.
??
We do? You mean by the act of writing RPS? I don't see it as such. And I have to admit, if it became real I don't think I could write RPS. Cos that would take the fun out of slashing them.
or if Sean is currently looking for wife number four.
*strips in Sean's direction*

The one on her back covers the entire small of her back. Damn.

Date: 2004-05-18 11:06 am (UTC)Right, I guess that expresses it better than I did. I meant the way we get all excited over something like the clip of Eric kissing Orlando. Not that is was real, as such, but that it teased us.
You mean by the act of writing RPS?
Not really, I mean in the jokey way we talk. Maybe "construct arguments" is too strong. And I totally agree about the "real" thing. If I was given evidence there was actually something going on I'd stop writing. It would kill the fandom. Not only because it would take the fun out of slashing them, but because it would just be kind of icky. And I know there's a weird line to draw, but it's there: I can write Orlando fucking Kate if Viggo's there or something, because that isn't (IMO) ever how it would be. However I couldn't write a Kate/Orlando fic. That would be wrong. There's got to be something 'make believe' about it.
