Attack of the killer plot bunnies!

Yes, it will have to join the queue, but:

Can any of you tell me where there are classical accounts of what happens before the Illiad? Specifically Hector and Paris's time in Sparta and the escape with Helen. There are probably several accounts in fact. But Homer doesn't really deal with it in any detail.
I know I can get hold of them since I seem to spend long hours between shelves of Plato, Xenophon and Aristotle at the moment and have registered to borrow from the classics library.

I suppose I could always email my supervisor to ask: he's used to me asking weird questions.

Also, since I don't have my copy of the Illiad with me, what century does Homer suggest it's in?

ETA: I've just realised how badly I phrased that question! I'll try again. I know that other poets and playwrights have written about events during the Trojan War - for example Sophocles. And of course Virgil's Aeneid. What I want to know is do you know of a text dealing directly with the elopement itself?

I need to ring home tonight anyway. (It's my parents wedding anniversary and Dad is home with my little sister, whilst Mum is spending it on a flight back from Boston.) I'll ask Dad - source of the supine - for anything he knows.

I'll see my Dad this weekend and ask him as well.

MWAH! If I don't know by Weds I'll ask my in my supervision. I just feel a bit stupid emailing my supervisor just for that. Although he's lovely so I'm sure he'd tell me.

Ok sweetie I showed my dad exactly what you were asking for and he found a book that you might be able to find all your answers in. It should be in the library.

It's by Will Durant -Story of Civilization - Vol 2 History of the world, Life of Greece.

It talks about everything before/after/during/myth/and fact.

Hope this helps babe! *hugs*

Here's text dealing with the elopment.

http://homepage.mac.com/cparada/GML/Paris.html

Scroll down and you'll see a section titled: Paris in Sparta (Hector didn't go with him - that's Troyverse).

You're an angel. You don't know if there's anything else do you? I mean, not Illiad itself.

Hector in Sparta: oh dear, I need to re-read the Illiad soon! I can't deal with my brain being unable to separate the two!
And Hector's going to be there in my version anyway. Why would I write about Paris without Hector? That's like eating butter without bread.

There's Ovid's Heroides, one of which is Helen to Paris. I found that via a quote from your link.

Argh, Must.Not.Pursue.This.Bunny.Now.

I'm afraid it's because I'm studying Sparta this week.

Ovid's Heroides seems to be the main source. I'm sure you guys have some good translations there. It stinks that there are no English translations on the internet. I like comparing.

Are there not? Well I can get it tomorrow or when I've finished the essay.

*sigh* I know. It's true. I now have a list of them. Trying to keep some semblence of order. That is: finish the banabloom and the next chapter of Borderland before I start anything new.

And I'm determined to stick to that. I'm just writing lots of plot notes!

I can't imagine what that's like. I have them so seldom. They certainly crack the whip when they arrive, but it's not often that they do.

Well, that's not accurate. I have an endless stream of PWPs bunnies. But those aren't really bunnies. That's just me. Horny.

I'm quite the opposite. They come in fully fledged plots. Or at least enough that I know there's a plot there and not just sex. But then I seem to throw plot in even when it was meant to be just sex.

I write them all down in a black book on the cover of which I have fandom quotes in silver. My orig fic ideas are there too, but highly outnumbered by the fanfiction. Current fanfiction total:
4 started (Banabloom. Borderland. An old untitled Viggo/Orlando/Liv which will resurface soon. A Boromir/Faramir)
6 which are just notes (the Sparta one - which is Hector/Paris. the Project. The *shudders* mpreg [livejournal.com profile] cfeng has challenged me to write. Another Viggorli. Another Viggorli. And a vague outline of something to do with Odysseus.)

And if I'm honest I really shouldn't be writing any of them at the moment. I should be studying. *pulls face*

Even though I don't have studying to tackle, I deeply empathize with you. There simply aren't enough hours in the day.

Maybe it's because I haven't been writing fan fics for very long, but I only ever have one in progress. It gets finished, and then and only then can I sit around and wait for another bunny. Not very efficient, perhaps. Yet I would go crazy if I had WIPs.

I always tell myself I won't start WIPs. Or at least "not until the holiday". I can satisfy myself happily with one shots. And yet I always get embroiled in them anyway. I try very hard not to have more than one at a time, Banabloom is a bit of an exception because it wasn't supposed to take this long.

I wish I didn't need to sleep. It takes up time I'd rather spend on other things.

I've found two translations of Heroides 17. It's one of the rarer ones, which surprised me.

I also realised that of course it doesn't matter that I didn't bring my copy of the Illiad with me: they have half a shelf of different translations (plus multiple copies of it in Greek with commentaries etc).

I didn't get either out yet, but it's great to know exactly where they are.

It also hit me this morning that I have to get the Banabloom finished this weekend. I want to post it Weds at the latest since it's pre-film.
