I'm back
Some immediate, overwhelmed and semi-coherent thoughts.
It is too long. But I don't love it any less for that.
I love Billy's voice. I loved that whole scene. In fact, that was where the tears welled up, not at the end.
I love Faramir, and David Wenham.
I was thrilled to see Sean Bean in the drawings at the end.
Frodo goes to the Grey Havens because he wants Sam to be happily married. Frodo is in love with Sam. There is no doubt at all. He says he doesn't want Sam to be conflicted. I just can't see that any other way.
I love the fact that we got to actually see Andy Serkis.
Viggo is the King. I love him completely and utterly.
I am jealous of Liv. Did you see the way he kissed her!?
It didn't do Orlando justice. A number of times I didn't think he looked attractive. However, when he walked through that door at the end...
I love Elijah Wood.
I love Sam, and Sean. "But I can carry you..."
The music is fantastic.
I laughed at Legolas's "A diversion!". Really? And I hadn't been listening to Aragorn say the same thing for about five minutes...
I thought they'd ruined the Shelob thing when Frodo 'escaped'. I'm glad they didn't.
I thought they might have really messed up the ending when Gollum fell. But of course, it was fine.
Frodo invisible at the end wasn't good. Only part that looked really fake.
Dom wasn't in it enough.
I can't wait to have Saruman and the Houses of Healing in the EEDVD.
I can't wait to see the Legolas/Aragorn fics - they were both awake that night in Edoras...
I'm glad they ended it with the last line from the book.
I didn't miss the Scouring of the Shire. It would have been too much.
I can't wait to see it again on Christmas Eve!
More when I am thinking more clearly.
Goodnight.

Date: 2003-12-18 03:40 pm (UTC)I'm sorry I missed Sean Bean in the credits, though - I had to pee too badly to stick around. It'll keep until the DVD, methinks.
And actually, I thought Viggo looked better before he washed his hair.
On a side note - did you get the preview for Azkaban? We did ... I want to see that again more than I want to see RotK!

Date: 2003-12-18 03:45 pm (UTC)I totally agree that unwashed Viggo is preferable!!
I think Aragorn would have married Legolas in that scene if they hadn't brought Arwen in. Yes - I thought of Orlando's interview too.

Date: 2003-12-18 06:27 pm (UTC)And Merry/Pippin would come second.
Back to the movie: Singing!Pippin *squees* GuardUniform!Pippin! Angsty!Pippin! General!Pippin.
That boy made up for everything else that ever went wrong, canonical or not.
And Sam, fucking loyal as all hell.
Have to see it again!
It's sold out here for a month. We have yet another set of tickets. Yay!

Date: 2003-12-18 07:04 pm (UTC)Oh, I have to comment. Half of my workplace is completely convinced that Merry and Pippin went back to the Shire and opened up the first Hobbit Gay Bar together. We figure karaoke on Tuesdays and Dress-Up Day on Thursdays.
I mean, seriously, how can you NOT watch that scene where Gandalf is taking Pippin away from Merry, and not know that Merry is totally pissed at Pippin because the idiot has messed up and now they'll never be together after all? Soooooo obvious.

Date: 2003-12-19 12:02 am (UTC)Well, we've seen them sing... and we've seen them dress up. Yeah, I can see that!

Date: 2003-12-19 12:01 am (UTC)Merry/Pippin is practically canon, I agree.
And Sam... oh Sam!

I can see the subtext perfectly well, movies and books. I just won't do anything about it.

Re: hey
Date: 2003-12-24 12:15 pm (UTC)1. There should be more King in Return of the King!!
2. Where do they get Frodo's shirt from? He's dressed in orc clothes, then miraculously has his own again by Mount Doom.
3. In the infamous 'A Diversion!' scene in Minas Tirith, am I the only one who saw a woman with what looked like a greyhound walk past in the back?
