Right, so there's a Merlin Big Bang Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] boxofmagic (15000-35000 word fic before July).

I am SO tempted, especially since that's a realistic timeframe (and after March I'm working on my dissertation so have much more control over how I organise my time).

Now, the question is:

Shall I have a go at writing my currently pretty neglected Epic Fic (the one I've been on about for ages and you haven't actually seen any serious evidence of it) for the challenge OR will I get myself into all sorts of tangles doing that (since I have clearly overthought this fic into oblivion) and pick a straightforward and fun scenario to write for the challenge and run with it?

This is me musing, rather than a poll or anything, but I'd love comments and opinions.

(Note: My Epic Fic is currently organised in to three parts - it's essentially a trilogy. The challenge stipulates it must be a complete fic, so I would probably have to write all three parts - which would be significantly over 35k)

I think you should do it! I don't even know which one you should choose, but you should totally do it!

I think I will! I'm just deep amongst Uni deadlines at the moment and signing myself up for anything seems like extra stress. But as soon as I'm back on top of things I know I'll want to do this!

I have no willpower. I'm all signed up.

i'd say a straightforward and fun scenario to write, keep the epic for some other time

That's sort of what I was thinking. I kind of want to write something more straightforward that I can just take and run with and see what happens. What, however, I don't know yet!

I tend to use challenges to get me to finally write the big WIPs that I've been putting off finishing--a deadline for added incentive. But that's my personal thing. You should do whichever feels inspirational to you. (I'm so excited at the idea of long Merlin fic from you, either way!)

I'm worried that I will get blocked on this fic. I've over-thought it and now I'm finding it really difficult to write. But yes, maybe a deadline will help.

So I don't know what I'm going to write, but I know I will be writing something. Haven't written anything over 9k in Merlin fandom yet, so I'm looking forward to it!
