oooh travel plans!

Just to let you know, I'm about to go travelling for three months and while I will have access to the internet some of the time, I won't be reading my flist much.

I realise that I've hardly posted for months, but I have been commenting on other people's posts and that is not very likely to continue until I get back.

I'm going to Bolivia, travelling up through Peru to Ecuador, spending a few days at a jungle lodge, taking a cruise around the Galapagos islands, then flying up to Mexico, exploring there for a while before headed up to California. At the end of May I'm flying out of San Francisco to Singapore for a week before heading back to London.

EDIT: I'm flying out on Weds the 28th of Feb and landing back at Heathrow on 7th June.

You will love the Galapagoes - they were simply unbelievable. Be sure to snorkle there if you can. The sea lions came and swam with us. But bring sea sickness meds. I recommend something sold as 'Bonine' here. It was brilliant with no sleepiness.

And Macchu Piccu is incredible too. You will want to take the bus up the mountain from Aquas Calientes, but you can walk down the steps back into town and explore the flowers and birds. Cusco was the Inca capital, so it has some fabulous architecture - much better construction than Macchu Piccu which has been largely reconstructed.

Have a great trip and I am in the SF area as well, if you want to email me...

Ooooh, it sounds wonderful. I will be doing some snorkling because the girl I'm travelling with is a scuba diver and she's organised to go diving for a couple of days and I'm going to go on the boat and snorkle.

I'm looking forward to Macchu Piccu, and to Cuzco, since I did a paper on Andean history in my degree last year.

You may well get an email as I approach San Fran. It would be great to meet up with people. I was going to say my poor dear friend will be totally overwhelmed, but actually I think she'll probably cope just fine!

Well, it would help if I could spell 'Galapagos', but... Really all the wealth of the islands, all the life there comes from the richness of the sea, so snorkeling was a heavenly peek at that world. My degree was in wildlife biology, so I found the Galapagos to be one of the most magical places on earth. The wildlife is all right there!!! The boobies are nesting on the trails...

And if you wrote a paper on Andean history, then your experience will be so much richer than ours was. One thing I just loved was the train ride between Cusco and Macchu Piccu. I loved seeing the farmers in their fields and the houses and then the towering mountains and Inca ruins.

I imagine your friend will be fine and it's actually nice to see something other than the tourist destinations... You can email me at andolinn at gmail dot com when you know your schedule. Have a great trip!
