Just to let you know, I'm about to go travelling for three months and while I will have access to the internet some of the time, I won't be reading my flist much.

I realise that I've hardly posted for months, but I have been commenting on other people's posts and that is not very likely to continue until I get back.

I'm going to Bolivia, travelling up through Peru to Ecuador, spending a few days at a jungle lodge, taking a cruise around the Galapagos islands, then flying up to Mexico, exploring there for a while before headed up to California. At the end of May I'm flying out of San Francisco to Singapore for a week before heading back to London.

EDIT: I'm flying out on Weds the 28th of Feb and landing back at Heathrow on 7th June.

So... you want me to email you constant mansex? Or is the point of this holiday to get the manlove out of your system?

I don't think I'll ever get it out of my system :P I am intending to write actually - lots of time on planes and trains etc. I was thinking I might play a bit more with original fiction and I've had this great idea... ugh, I'm always having ideas! hehe.

I would of course muchly appreciate emails (I fully expect comment on Equus damn you) although obviously my online time will be limited to internet cafes, so I won't be reading anything lengthy.

Oooh! So 6 days later and I could have bumped into you at the airport? *lol*

Are you going to stop at Machu Pichu and lake Titicaca? Highly recomended (although I must protest that my own little Chile has been ignored - if nothing else our buses are much better than Peru's as I painfully discoved;p).

Have a wonderful time and I demand to see pics when you finaly get back :)

Our initial plans started in Chile - the girl I'm travelling with has family friends there and we were intending to go visit them. We were also going to stop in Costa Rica or Panama on our way north. But we were getting very stretched so we decided to cut back and have a little bit longer to do each of the things so that we didn't feel so rushed. It also gives us an excuse to go back :P

And of course I will share pics!

Oh, and yes, we've booked the Inca trail (which I suspect is going to be a strain) to Macchu Picchu and an overnight stay on one of the islands in lack Titicaca. It's supposed to be spectucular.

I would love to do the Inca Trail some day, we were a little pushed for time and also we had the munchkins with us so we got the train from Cuzco which btw I loved as well. I guess quite a lot depends on how you adjust to the altitude but if you're going up through Bolivian first I guess you'll be ok - also drink the coca tea. ;)

Taquile island by any chance? make sure to see the totora islands as well while you're there...

Costa Rica, Mexico, the Galapagos & Honduras are still on my 'to visit' list ;p

Yay pics!

Wow! That sounds completely fantastic!

At the end of May I'm flying out of San Francisco

Is there time to send you phone numbers and stuff just in case you have a chance to hang out?

Yeah absolutely! Other than the fact that we're flying out on May 29th, I'm not sure when we'll be in San Francisco. Hil has some family friends there who she wants to see, so yeah we'll definitely be around for a bit and want to explore the city. How long we are there really depends on a) how long we stay in Mexico and b) how sidetracked we get on the way north! But the lack of plans means that there's always space to incorporate more stuff and I'd really like to meet up!
You've got my email address right? I mean, obviously the aleathiel one, but the other one too? Or do you only have the cam.ac.uk one which is *sob* gone now that I've graduated?

You will love the Galapagoes - they were simply unbelievable. Be sure to snorkle there if you can. The sea lions came and swam with us. But bring sea sickness meds. I recommend something sold as 'Bonine' here. It was brilliant with no sleepiness.

And Macchu Piccu is incredible too. You will want to take the bus up the mountain from Aquas Calientes, but you can walk down the steps back into town and explore the flowers and birds. Cusco was the Inca capital, so it has some fabulous architecture - much better construction than Macchu Piccu which has been largely reconstructed.

Have a great trip and I am in the SF area as well, if you want to email me...

Ooooh, it sounds wonderful. I will be doing some snorkling because the girl I'm travelling with is a scuba diver and she's organised to go diving for a couple of days and I'm going to go on the boat and snorkle.

I'm looking forward to Macchu Piccu, and to Cuzco, since I did a paper on Andean history in my degree last year.

You may well get an email as I approach San Fran. It would be great to meet up with people. I was going to say my poor dear friend will be totally overwhelmed, but actually I think she'll probably cope just fine!

Well, it would help if I could spell 'Galapagos', but... Really all the wealth of the islands, all the life there comes from the richness of the sea, so snorkeling was a heavenly peek at that world. My degree was in wildlife biology, so I found the Galapagos to be one of the most magical places on earth. The wildlife is all right there!!! The boobies are nesting on the trails...

And if you wrote a paper on Andean history, then your experience will be so much richer than ours was. One thing I just loved was the train ride between Cusco and Macchu Piccu. I loved seeing the farmers in their fields and the houses and then the towering mountains and Inca ruins.

I imagine your friend will be fine and it's actually nice to see something other than the tourist destinations... You can email me at andolinn at gmail dot com when you know your schedule. Have a great trip!

Also, I intend to return with some original fiction generated on buses and trains and planes. Once it's all typed up I will spam you with it.

Oh, wow. I'm always impressed when people travel like this. I dream of doing it, but alas, I'm travel challenged. So if you don't mind, I'm going to live through you as you go about on your adventure.

You know, I never thought I'd do it. Nobody I knew took a Gap year after school when I was applying to Uni (from a comprehensive in a pretty rough area) but SO many people I knew had been so many exciting places when I got to Uni (went to Cambridge - people were much richer than my schoolfriends). I didn't ever feel left out, but they had so many photos of wonderful things that I just new I had to go somewhere at some point. I graduated with no plans, worked for six months to make money and am now spending that and the remainder of my student loan.

AWESOME.

South America is awesome, I want to go there one day.

Also, why did I not know you were from the UK?

ALSO why is it that everyone is leaving the UK right before I get there? Coincidence? I think not. O.o

Have fun on your trip!!
