So, I know I haven't posted for ages, I'm in my final year of university. Time is precious, what can I say? I still read things and comment when I can.

And in light of that I give you a poll. I was hit by inspiration in a rather dull lecture today and have a brilliant idea for a new multi chaptered Viggorli fic. However, I felt dubious about starting a WIP as I don't have a great amount of time or a great track record. I still have two old WIPs (Rubies - Viggo/Sean/Orlando - and The Roman Viggorli) languishing even though I did finish Squiggles at Christmas. And there's half-written other pairing bits and pieces.

All that in consideration, this idea is still burning a hole in the side of my brain. I want to write it. Razzle suggested I tell myself I can once I've dealt with one of my other WIPs, that I should tell myself I can only have two WIPs at a time.

So, vote and tell me, bearing in mind I'm not going to be posting three times a week on anything given the pile of work on my desk.

I'd say, as a reader, I'm always hungry for new fic. Speshully from a really good writer. I don't mind WIP's. Sometimes, you need to write something new so that the old stuff can have time to mulch a bit. Like the old four field system of farming. One field always lays fallow.
So, write it. Just cause you work on this doesn't mean anything about when the other stories will get written.

True. I just feel guilty starting something new when I've got so much else unwritten. That said, new stuff is the best writing because it's freshest.

I agree. I totally hear you. I've got two more Vigorli wips started and a new one came to me this week. But I remind myself that this is 'fandom'. readers are quite happy to read what you write and are, imho, very forgiving. most of the folkes reading your stuff don't leave comments but are excited when new pic is posted. but more than any of that, you should (and I don't use THAT word lightly) be writing what makes you excited to write. because it's YOUR writing. and it's a hobby.

As always, I take these things too seriously, but if a new fic is burning a hole in your brain and the others aren't, I'd say work on the new fic. You're excited about it. There's nothing quite like working on a story when the excitement level is high. Why put that off? This is supposed to be for fun, after all. Your other WIPs are suffering for your lack of time, true, but if you were as excited by either of them, you'd be thinking about them in a dull lecture, not the new one. (so says the girl who is currently working on five WIPs, and no, they're not all posted yet)

And it just occurred to me that I volunteered a while ago to review the stories on your list and give you some honest feedback as to style, plot, etc. Do you still need me to do that? (my brain is apparently mush) I'm sorry I apparently dropped the ball on that. *hugs*

Yeah, I think I might start writing it even if I don't post until its developing nicely.

And it's okay, I would still be interested in which fics you actually think are good as opposed to fun or whatever. I'm still trying to actually work on my ability to write and I would like an opinion on what I do well and what I need to improve.

I'm not the right person to ask since I'm very good at throwing WIP:s and other little projects up in the air, without really knowing if I can catch them or not. *lol*

If I were you I would start writing on the new fic, because you should catch the bunnies while you can. Then if you really feel like it's going somewhere and want to share it... Do so.

Yeah that's true. I may start on it, possibly send some to Razzle, but refrain from posting until I'm sure it's going somewhere.

Yeah, you see I was afraid everyone would tick that box and I'd never get to write anything of my own ever again.

Hey, I so understand.

Here I am, working (and the bookshop is *busy* now, so no more writing at work), and going pro, so spending time writing original fiction and also reworking my fannish stuff for sale (it took ten hours of work to alter Guerdon enough to be able to submit it). I want to write a short original piece every fortnight, as a career goal.

And I've got a weirdarse WIP underway, and this really neat idea come tickling around my brain, one I could write Viggorli, but which would be AU enough I could make it original.

I don't have time!

and it's Swancon in less than two weeks, and I have Stuff to do for that too, and this will be the first year in a long time I've not submitted anything for the art show...

Did I mention we've got a Mercedes Lackey signing session at the bookshop Wednesday next week?

Really, do I look like a woman that needs a new fic idea? And that I have to leave for work in ten minutes, and I'm naked and wet from the shower?

I suppose it's better than having nothing in our lives. But I know how you must feel.
