Hehe, right! We're talking about intense speed-rowing, not lengthy endurance. I don't think a single heat lasted more than two minutes, but some of them had to be lifted out of the seat because they couldn't walk afterwards.
The womens' is generally more civilised - intense but not as insane as the mens. Our women (*sob* without me!) came second and our men won.

Men are hopeless!

My knowledge of rowing is very limited it consists of supporting Redgrave & Pinsent (or Pinsent & whoever it is now) and cheering for Cambridge in the boat race - not really sure why as I didn't go to cambridge, neither has anyone I know (until now) so I guess it's just cos they seemed less tory-conservative than oxford ;-)

My knowledge of rowing was even more non-existant than that until four weeks ago. I came thinking 'I'm not going to row. I'm not a rwing type of person'. To be honest, I'm not really a sporty type of person at all.
I was convinced to go out once for a trial session, figured it couldn't hurt, and got hooked.
You picked the right side in the boat race! (even if we haven't won for a while... there's always this year). And to be honest, the reason I applied to Cambridge not Oxford was that the people here are nice (with the exception of the stereotypical filthy rich and stuck-up Trinity crowd) and are actually fairly normal. Okay, so there's a guy on my staircase who was at Eton with Prince Harry, and far too many of these people have faaaaaarrr to much money, but they aren't all tory and 'rah' like the people I met at Oxford (who put me off going there).
