Oh dear, this game has made me develop a conscience.

I just solved a puzzle by trial and error (if you've done it I guess you'll know which one) and successfully got to where the story continued. Then felt unbelieveably like a cheat and closed the screen, forcing myself to do it again and work it out. Now I'm back where I started...

Hi, you don't know me but you seem to be a lot better at this game than I am!

Would you be up for giving a poor Identity Code-obsessive a hand? No outright cheating, just a point in the right direction?

If you want. But only if it's something I've completed, obviously.

Oh you angel. I'll take anything that you're willing to offer.

I'm on the bit where you have to rearrange the pieces of the journal entry. Am I completely off my nut or am I supposed to be trying to use Livejournal's interests page to try and find something?

Thanks!

You aren't off your nut. In fact, you've almost cracked it - look at what Orlando actually writes. Have you solved the coded bit in the letter?

No, I'm still locked in a battle to the death to get the thrice damned pieces in the right order. Now I know that I'm on the right track, I'll keep going. Thanks for the help!

No problem. As far as fitting them together is concerned, there's no trick. It's like those spacial awareness puzzles you have as a child where you move the tiles to make the picture. I find the trick is to get two in the right order - say the top two - not necessarily in the right place but next to each other, then you can rotate all the pieces around until those two are in the right place. Three are then easier to untangle than five.

Yeah, and I always hated those puzzles as a child! I'm getting there, slowly.

God knows that I'll never be able to repay the favour but should there be anything at any point that I can do for you, just ask.

The three doors. I'm beyond and continuing but aware that I haven't solved them.

Am not entirely certain there was anything to actually solve in that case. If there was, I didn't catch on. :)

So my doing it by trial and error was okay? I thought I should have been able to work out which door to take in each case - some linking theme between them or something.

There was a theme to it.

But... (highlight to see) they discontinue making any sense when you stray off the path, which is confusing. Which is why we did it. ;)

Right then, when I finish the game I might go abck and see if I can work it out with hindsight's aid/

Hi, do you mind if another fellow obssessed comes to ask some advice?
I'm just sadly stuck (again). :D I'm in Orlando's apartment, that guy showed up and I'm trying to help Orli, but I can't figure out the password. I've read the poem five times, but I guess my brains are not working properly today.

That's exactly where I am. Harry's come in and I'm trying with one half of my brain to save Orlando and with the other half to write an essay on women in colonial america. And I'm failing at both! I'm sure it should be something obvious but my brain isn't working! I'll keep thinking and let you know if I come up with anything - would you please let me know if you do!?

Of course I will, but I don't think I'll come up with anything :D I've had all sorts of weird ideas from serial killers in New York to Billy's movies.

I was trying to come up with something from earlier in the game. I have a nagging suspicion that it said is something in the archives. But I haven't had time yet to actually "play" the game and go back and look.

women in the colonial US? Cool! History was one of my majors in undergrad--I was a generalist but I took a class on women in the American civil war that was really fun. Good luck on your essay.

The essay is so not happening. I can't concentrate at all.

I'm doing an undergrad degree in history in Cambridge. At the moment focussing on Colonial America. I'm thinking of doing my dissertation on European persepectives of Native American women.

That would be very interesting to read, I think.

(I did a year of my undergrad reading history at Oxford, but never made it to visit Cambridge. I wish I had!)

I didn't like Oxford as much, which is why I applied to Cambridge after much deliberation. Oxford is much more urban.

I love Cambridge - I love the opportunities and the intelligence of the people. But it's so tiring. I feel like there's always another thousand things that need to be done and then there's all the plays and concerts and so on that I want to try and fit in as well. And I row 1st boat for my college, which seriously cuts into my sleeping time. Then again, I guess we learn to adapt: I can sleep instantly on getting into bed and can just about live on five hours a night.

So really I don't have time to be playing this highly addictive game. But there we go - I'll get the work done. Just means even less sleep tonight :P

Oxford was the smallest town I had ever lived in. Hee. I'm an urban girl.

OMG your post made me miss university so much.

Seriously. Stay there as long as you can!
