Ian McKellan
Oct. 14th, 2003 11:32 amSir Ian McKellan is giving a talk to the Writers Guild here in Cambridge (wow am I glad I joined!?) on Thursday. Obviously, I am planning to go although unfortunately it did mean pulling out of my Matriculation Dinner. Sad, but it should be worth it, especially since it doesn't seem to have been very well advertised and no one seems to know so there may not be that many of us there.

Date: 2003-10-14 04:55 am (UTC)My aim in the next three years is to get the Writers guild to get Viggo to come. I mean, they have frequent poetry readings...
it's worth a shot huh?

Date: 2003-10-14 05:02 am (UTC)The email was the weekly update from the guild listing all the events in the near future and all it said about Ian was:
blah...blah McKellan talk blah...
"You might have seen him in a Shakespeare play, or more likely in Lord of the Rings. There will be free drinks - that's got to be a good thing. Please come."
Um? Drinks? I'm sorry but is that not totally irrelevant? I'd happily pay to see Ian McKellan, you don't need to bribe me!!

Date: 2003-10-14 05:19 am (UTC)But seriously, I shall endevour to get photos etc as well as an account of his talk. In interviews he always comes across as really interesting and friendly, but I don't want to be awkward if he doesnt want to do more than give the talk. I'll play it by ear.
I've been trying to think of things to ask him that aren't blatently obvious but show a geunine interest. I don't feel I can really ask him 'How many of the fellowship are gay?', tempting as it might be, hehe!! (not that he'd break their trust even if he knew, but still..)

Date: 2003-10-14 05:30 am (UTC)There is of course also his comment on the cast commentary of the EEDVD where he refers to Elijah and Sean as 'two very hetrosexual young men'. I'm expect that I can get away with questions about Frodo/Sam if not their counterparts...

Date: 2003-10-14 04:58 am (UTC)Thanks for the welcome, I have set aside a couple of hours tomorrow after my essay goes in (sigh. The essay I should currently be writing instead of on here!) in which to catch up on my friends' LJs and writing.

Date: 2003-10-14 05:47 am (UTC)sounds reasonable to me - 'sides isn't it traditional for students to do sod all for the first year or so ?!? *eg*
Me not a good student which is why I have to go deliver my exam entry in person this afternoon as I managed to loose my form and the deadline is tomorrow! Luckily it's just round the corner from work.
