Christmas is a time for sharing and all that. Since there are lots of people on my flist who don't actually know one another because I've friended you all over time and for different reasons I'm going to write a top ten (...or eleven or twelve) author recommendation. I love pointing people in the direction of fics I love: it's that same delicious feeling as watching someone else open a present you've picked for them.

There is no way I can rank these in any kind of order and I'm sure I've missed some important people, so don't be offended if you aren't there. There's a mix of fandoms, although the majority are LOTR RPS, not all are - I'll mention things as I get to them.

These are just some of the people I think are the best writers on LJ:

Where to start? At the beginning I suppose. [livejournal.com profile] lennongirl. Her Learning By Doing was, I think, the first Viggo/Orlando I ever read. It was certainly one of the first and [livejournal.com profile] lennongirl was one of the first people on my flist. I'm glad she's still there.
Highlights of her work include the above and the famous Unnecessary Evils, co-written with [livejournal.com profile] jenlynn820. Girls, is this fic abandonned?

Viggorli by Lennongirl can be found here. She also writes QAF fanfiction which can be found in her memories.

[livejournal.com profile] abundantlyqueer. More LOTR RPS, mostly AU. Some of the most beautifully written fics I've read. Many pairings, a tendency towards Orlando/Elijah. Her best known works are See Under: Clue, Getting A, which would be a serious contender for hottest fic I've ever read, and Off the Ropes, although my favourites include Mardi Gras and The Templar. [livejournal.com profile] abundantlyqueer is one of the authors on my flist for whom I will drop everything to read a new fic. Any new fic.

An index to all her fics can be found here

Another author who has the effect of making me instantly read anything she posts is [livejournal.com profile] stewardess_lotr. She is one of the few people for whom I will read fics about a film I've never seen. And more than that, get completely hooked. It was a sad day when she pulled her Black Hawk Down fics and I can only wish her the absolute best in converting them into a novel.
However, we are left with much that is delicious in [livejournal.com profile] stewardess_lotr's LJ. Firstly her LOTR FPS, especially the divine Shining One arc. Boromir/Faramir through to Boromir/Legolas and Faramir/Aragorn with much in between. Still an absolute favourite of mine - one of those series I can go back and read again and again and it never loses its brilliance. And never fails to make me cry.
[livejournal.com profile] stewardess_lotr has also written Troy fanfiction and Boondock Saints fanfiction (another one on which she got me hooked before I'd seen the film). I hereby swear I will read anything Stewardess writes, however odd it seems, because I know it will be good.
All fics are linked to at the top of her LJ.

This is going to be a long post, isn't it?

[livejournal.com profile] perseph2hades. Before there was Troy there was Persephone. Forget the film, read the fics. I might just shut up now because I cannot do this series justice. Hector and Paris at their most complex and fascinating. And gorgeous writing too *g*.

(she also writes Black Hawk Down, Boondock Saints, Kingdom of Heaven RPS, LOTR RPS and the sexiest Bean/Bana/Bloom. Links to all are in the link above.)

[livejournal.com profile] jasmineskie. The first woman to get me to read Mpreg after I had publicly declared that I thought it was silly and had no intention of doing so. She had to start writing Unexpected and prove me totally wrong, didn't she? (most recent chapter here with links to the rest)
If anyone knows if there is a comprehensive index of her work I would love to know.

[livejournal.com profile] nitw1t. If there were an award for most improved writer, it would have to go to [livejournal.com profile] nitw1t. I wouldn't want to embarrass her, but I remember the first of [livejournal.com profile] nitw1t's work and you wouldn't believe it was the same person. I am impressed to the extreme with her speed at becoming not only a proficient but genuinely good Viggorli writer and I can't help looking forward to see where she goes next. All her fics are here. My personal favourite is probably Desert Heat.

[livejournal.com profile] dmb_dragonfly (formerly [livejournal.com profile] dmbdragonfly if that causes any confusion). Best known for The Misadventures of Sir Ian the Gay, co-written with [livejournal.com profile] cynical_terror (who is the person marked "get to know" in my brain. Because it appears she is fabulous - go read her new fic Chalk Butterfly!), and [livejournal.com profile] thetalkstory, also co-written with [livejournal.com profile] cynical_terror (see why I must friend this girl?). [livejournal.com profile] dmb_dragonfly, as well as being one of the most amusing people I know on LJ, is currently also tackling an mpreg. Do not fear, is is written by Darcy. Therefore read Early Theory. And everything else on [livejournal.com profile] copacetic_fic.

I'm not going to manage to make this ten. I'm already half an hour into this post and have at least four more to go. Oh well.

[livejournal.com profile] shrinetolust. Another person who really ought to have a fic index. Is there one? Because I couldn't find it. [livejournal.com profile] shrinetolust's LJ is the perfect place to hang out and perve. Fics vary greatly depending on who the current object of drool is, my favourite being, I think, Touching (Sean Bean/Viggo Mortensen) or maybe Married (Eric Bana/Orlando Bloom).
Aha. I have found this listing.

[livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow. If anyone is likely to convince me to write something outside my own fandoms, it's Cathy. At her request I've written Matt Damon/Ben Affleck (and liked it) and Van Helsing slash. [livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow makes many of her own recommendations in [livejournal.com profile] lotr_squee and [livejournal.com profile] rec_room in addition to being a fabulous writer herself. LOTR RPS is Elijah/Orlando, although she writes for many other fandoms, especially, at the moment, Matt/Ben. My favourites are Falling Stars, with its incredibly clever use of timelines, and Elijah's Collection, especially the second part. Full listing of her slash is here.

Whew, we are approaching the end. If you are still with me then there are some treats in store.

[livejournal.com profile] chaosmanor. Her Perchance series still, I think, holds the title of My Absolute Favourite Fic. And looking at the recs above and below this, that's pretty damn impressive. Everything [livejournal.com profile] chaosmanor has written is beautiful, her LOTR FPS as well as RPS. Most is Viggo/Orlando, although not all. I have a particular soft spot for Strangers to the Ground and its sequel Flying South. Thursday's Child, her Viggorli Mpreg, spawned an original fic spin-off [livejournal.com profile] wheeloftheyear, recently finished, which I adore.
I can do no less than recommend everything here. Fics also in her memories.

[livejournal.com profile] razzleslash. My sweet Razzle. You thought I'd left you out, didn't you? Or you were at least slightly worried...
Probably best known for Abuse of Power, the ultimate Viggorli AU. It was Cold Antiquity that brought Razzle and I together and it was the first of her fics I betad, so obviously it is a favourite of mine. As is Grounded, which I can smugly claim is partially my fault.
All Razzle's fics are here: peruse at your pleasure leisure.

That's it. We've come to the end, although I could go on ([livejournal.com profile] eirien_rhovan...[livejournal.com profile] poisondreams...)

Well... almost.

I've debated throughout the *gulp* hour it's taken me to type, find and link this post whether or not to include this final fic. And I've decided yes.

[livejournal.com profile] msmanna's Original Fic slash The Administration. I know that the idea of original fic might scare some of you off, but that's your loss because this is fabulous stuff. The three novels, three novellas and twenty-seven short stories trace the relationship of Val Toreth and Keir Warrick in a beautifully drawn future world. As a taster, the first few chapters of the first novel "Mind Fuck" can be read as a stand alone, here: Virtual. Go on, it won't hurt.

WHEW. That took all evening! But seriously, now I can selfishly see many of my favourites all linked from one post and I can point you lot to them. Go have a look.

I think you should be incredibly proud of yourself. Razzle and I were talking how impressed we were with your writing the other day. You've learned so much so quickly.

Thank you for the rec, sweetie! *hugs* All of my fics are on my LJ. Well, with the exception of one that I wrote solely for [livejournal.com profile] carefullykissed that's there and nowhere else. I haven't indexed them though. Maybe I should sometime.

I'm honored to be included among all the outstanding writers you've listed. And I agree with other commenters here -- your fics are also not to be missed. You've enticed me to read outside my Viggorli fandom and like it, no small feat. *g*

I figured they were probably all in your LJ but wondered if you had them gathered anywhere. You certainly deserve to be on the list, I think you're a great storyteller.

I only just found this (because I only just found [livejournal.com profile] four_lobsters. I'm a bit slow sometimes!), and I'm pretty much squeeing! It's so lovely to know you enjoy my recs and prodding for weird fandoms as much as my writing :) Thank you.
