The woman I babysit for has to go to London quite often for her work. It's quite a long journey and she often strikes up conversations with people on the train. She just told me about a time (I don't know when this happened, sometime in the last few months) when she was talking to a nice man she vaguely recognised. On arriving in London, that evening, she went out with him for a drink before meeting the friends she was staying with (her meeting was in the morning). She turned down his dinner invitation.

The man was John Rhys Davies.

And she, on discovering this, said to him, "Oh, well, to be honest, I didn't really enjoy Lord of the Rings."

Yes, her nine-year-old son (who is scarily mature and says things about LOTR that just make me grin...) threatened to disown her when she related this.

But... he could have ordered for her. A duck. And two partridges. And...

Damnit woman!

I don't like JRD all THAT much, but I'd still go out to dinner with him if he asked me to!!

*walks around in a daze at someone not liking LotR*

Indeed. Think of the stories he could tell. And Indiana Jones too!

What I want to know is did he ask her to dinner before or after she said she hadn't liked the movie? Because if he knew she didn't like the movie when he asked her, it shows what a *ahem* big man he is. Of course, he'd always wonder if she didn't go out with him because she didn't like the movie, but he'd probably wonder that anyway.

I think he asked her after she'd said that.

Indeed. "And it was really funny," she said. "Because he was really tall and he was playing a dwarf. He said he was taller than all of them, actually. Taller than that one you like and Orlando Bloom and the others."

*sigh*
