I've seen that movie so many times, I've convinced myself I have it figured out. But of course I don't.

I saw a screening of it with the director and his brother (who I think really deserve to be slashed, OMFG. He calls his brother Jonah, even though his name's Jonathan *droool*) and there were all these geeks asking geeky fanboy questions. Nolan refused to "decipher" the movie for anyone. LOL. Lots of frustrated fanboys. Even the moderator was whimpering.

The movie is based on a short story Jonathan wrote in Esquire or GQ, can't remember. But even if you read it, you won't see where the movie came from. It's a brilliant story, told from the mind of a person in a mental institution (and of course, that's Leonard Shelby's mind - Guy Pearce's character). But you don't know in the movie that he's an escaped mental patient!

It was a big hit here in the states when it was released, caused madness in all who saw it. But it was origianlly passed up for distribution by every studio and distribution company. In the end it was independently distributed.
