Oh help. [livejournal.com profile] cfeng - in reponse to my previous post - has challenged me to write an mpreg fic where the characters both remain clearly male. My complaint against mpreg was that the pregnant one gets turned effeminate, OOC and then you might as well read het really.

It's not like I've got time, but I want comments. Should I even try? I'm tempted because I can't resist a challenge. But I have to get past the ewwwwww factor first. Help me out.

of course you should try. and what ewwwwww factor? just because it's impossible...

[identity profile] ohiaminagony.livejournal.com 2004-04-29 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
I am sure you can write mpreg. Not all mpreg fics have the "mother" acting effeminate or OOC. I have read some pretty nice fics/role-playing :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll think about it while I finish up what I'm working on now.

I've not really read any so I have nothing to compare it with. Rephrase that: I've not read any of the type you describe.

Well, I've written an Mpreg fic before... completely stupid, all of it. It's hilarious - not finished, probably wont ever be for that matter, but damn, it's funny. It's Aragorn/Legolas, and Legolas is the pregnant one - suffering from morning sickness and moodswings... it's all very, very silly.

I cant think of a way to write a serious Mpreg... you could always just try to play it completely straight (if you excuse the pun), taking it quite seriously, but ending up with a funny fic because of that...

As far as the, ah, mechanics go... C-Section, anyone? Sex can be normal gay sex, but it'd have to be a C-Section for the birth (if you're going to go that far, of course), or the baby could come out more... interesting orifices O.o; *coughs*

I'm not helping, am I? LOL

I'm slightly tempted to do it as Viggo/Orlando and have Viggo as the pregnant one. Just because I'd expect it to be Orlando. Maybe I'll write it from Henry's perspective.

Damn. Now I'm thinking about this as if it'll get written.

[identity profile] jasmineskie.livejournal.com 2004-04-29 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
have Viggo as the pregnant one.

Now see... that's what I thought you should do! Just because it is so unexpected, not only because Orlando is typically portrayed as the more 'girly' of the two in any fic like this, but because Viggo's so much older anyway. I mean, I wouldn't want to be faced with the prospect of a baby at his age. And writing it from Henry's perspective, that makes it all the more different.

Now I'm thinking about this as if it'll get written.

Isn't amazing how these bunnies can take on a life of their own? *g*

I've never read mpreg- I guess that is my last 'squick', after I got over RPS (and boy, did I!) But i'd say if you tink you'd like to try it, go for it.

By all means, give it a try. You're a competent writer, I am sure you can keep it within the bounds of what you think is realistic and what isn't.

Do you read H/D universe? You can go http://www.livejournal.com/users/dracolicious. It is an on-going rps and Draco is the one pregnant and has given birth to a girl called Emma. You have to read the comments to each entry, they are absolutely hilaarious. And http://www.livejournal.com/users/boywholives -> Harry's LJ

Part of the fun of being a writer is to enjoy the writing process. I don't think it should be a painful process...
If you don't enjoy it, don't do it... if you do, then write it...
Also, I don't understand how you could write an mpreg without the charcter becoming effeminate, everything about pregnancy is feminine.

I'm with that sentiment entirely. Which is why I'm pausing, when normally I embrace a challenge with open arms.

Realistic? Mpreg? But seriously, I understand what you mean.

Wow, that's a vote of confidence!

It's not painful. It partly intrigues me, which in itself is almost reason enough to write it.

Also, I don't understand how you could write an mpreg without the charcter becoming effeminate, everything about pregnancy is feminine.
That's the problem. And (since I've decided that if I do write it, it will be him) so how can I possibly keep Viggo in character? (Orlando is naturally seen as the more girly. So it can't be him)

I have other things to write first, but I'm going to mull it over.

[identity profile] poisondreams.livejournal.com 2004-04-29 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
well it's true. ANYTHING you write will be great!!

*whispers* and just cause [livejournal.com profile] cfeng said it you know you hafta ;)

A pregnancy doesn't have to make a male character effeminate persé. It could make him more sensitive and more domestic but that doesn't equate effeminate necessarily. Perhaps you can compare it with a man who is preparing for a sexchange. With the intake of 'female' hormones he changes, in body and mind. I am sure these changes are documentated and accessible. Perhaps it is an idea to read about it a bit and see if it can help you write within the boundaries of realism. As far as mpreg is realistic ofcourse....

That's a good idea. Thanks.

That sounds absolutely interesting (because what [livejournal.com profile] jasmineskie said *points below*), so I dearly hope that this bunny turns into a story one of these days.

:) I think it probably will. It just has to wait in line for a bit while I get a few other things written!
