Yes I studied medieval history this year, but I don't know the answer to this, and more importantly I don't know where to look it up.

What do you call an earl's wife?

Count. Countess.
Duke. Duchess.
Lord. Lady.
Thegn. Lady.
Marquis. Marchioness.

Earl. ? (is it Lady?)

I don't suppose any of you have any ideas?

ETA: thanks to everyone who told me it was a countess, both in comments here and over the phone *grin*

Surprisingly enough, you would also call her a Countess.

Don't ask why I know, I have no clue myself.

Hope that helps!

Really? Thanks.

You're welcome.

I believed it is Countess. (got that from romance novels ;P)

Countess it is then, between you, the comment above and CFeng all telling me the same thing. As far as I'm concerned, that'll do for confirmation!

I want it for a fic. Of the distinctly romance-novel variety, I'm afraid. But with fewer women.

Sounds good. What pairing would that be? ;)

Hehe, what do you want? It's currently about fifteen pairings centered around, but not exclusively, featuring one or more of Viggo, Sean and Orlando. But the twisty plot hasn't all be worked out yet. I'm not joking: is there a pairing you want to see?
It'll have an overall Viggo/Orlando bias. But that's because I can't deny my preference!

Ah since you are already having a Viggo/Orlando pairing, I would love to see some Dom/Billy action ;)

:) Well that's definitely no problem!

Thank you love *snogs you*

Any other hints about this fic? *G*

Um...nope! Partly because I've only got the outline worked out, and partly because there's one central thing about the fic I'm keeping secret. So yeah, that's a hint: there's something important I'm not saying about the fic. Just that it's ambitious (and I wonder if I'm insane to even try it!).

And it's psudo-medieval. Almost. If you squint at it sideways from the other side of the room.

Haha! I knew it was a countess! Yay for the American! *grin*

Of course, I have no idea what the difference between a Count and an Earl and any of the rest of that is. Except Dukes are usually brothers to the King, and Lords are random honored people, and sometimes sons of important people? I think?

I have no idea what the difference is now, just in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. I'm not even a 100% sure what order they rank in now!

Well, as long as you don't know either, I feel better about it. *grin*
