Is it just me or is there a fandom trend moving from 'while they were filming LOTR' fics to 'this could be happening now/recently/soon' fics?

I haven't read much recently, so from a writer's perspective, I agree. There's been so many NZ fics done, that they've pretty much been done to death. Plus, there isn't any more filming, therefore no more fodder for fics. There's a lot more non-LOTR press now (well obviously not at this particular moment, with ROTK and all!), and therefore more non-LOTR related fodder. Also a maturing of writers?

i always thought there was a healthy balance of them. is it shifting?

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Makes sense.

Maybe it's just what I'm reading, but a lot of the recent stuff doesn't seem to be set when filming.

maybe it's because the "journey is ending" and all that.
