A review from here, I'll put the whole post under a cut just to be safe from spoilers.

Well, there is no way in hell this movie is PG-13, with all of the spurting blood, staffs through the head, stabbings, hangings, and all around bloody fighting, not to mention the pubic revelations of both Pitt and Orlando Bloom

Just no comment. Unfortunately the film has not gone through it's final edit.

Oh, and about Legolas...yeah, he is entirely pointless. Ignore the third billing. Aside from setting the story in motion in the beginning, Bloom is hardly in the movie.

Oh dear, but the reviewer really doesn't like him anyway.

On the positive side:

First, Eric Bana. Don't let the advertising fool you, this is his movie. His character of Hector is a great man, brave and scared, strong willed and determined but realistic, the most realized and well written character. He is known now, but this movie will make him a star.

And lots of praise of Brad Pitt's fighting skills.

Paris is a stupid little pretty boy who decides to sleep with and steal away the Spartan King's wife, Helen (the very yummy and super duper delicious hottie Diane Kruger), and return to Troy with Helen as his tasty treat of a girlfriend.

Do you sense any jealousy of Mr. Bloom in this review?

*g*

Similar "men enraged because they aren't Orlando Bloom" comments were made about Orlando in Pirates of the Caribbean. I ignore all reviews by het men about Mr. Bloom now.

"...not to mention the pubic revelations of both Pitt and Orlando Bloom..."

*prays for it to be true, and for it not to be cut from the theatrical release*

I like Eric Bana a lot, so I think all the praise is good news, but why so dismissive about Orlando? Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.....

Were Legolas in this movie, it would be entirely pointless, albiet amusing. :) I'm seeing man-envy.

And lots of praise of Brad Pitt's fighting skills
That did seem to border on obsession...

And lastly...the pubic revelations of both Pitt and Orlando Bloom
Who else is hoping these'll be in the same scene?
*crosses fingers*

Totally no jealousy! I'm sure it's a balanced and objective review. Did it make you laugh as much as it made me?

It would be nice. Maybe he figures if Viggo can geet away with it... although I doubt we're talking that my exposure.

I think we've all spotted lots of man-envy going on here! maybe the poor guy got confused by the whole bow and arrow thing and didn't understand it was Paris not Legolas

And lastly...the pubic revelations of both Pitt and Orlando Bloom

Um... ME!!

My brothers at age 12 were more mature than this. Rather scary.

Things go boom!

Naked girls!

Fucking Orlando Bloom reminds me I suck!

Reminds me, though, that this movie is a bit schizophrenic. Rarely has a movie with so much male eye candy like Bana, Pitt, and Bloom also been a violent war film. There was a freak in the imdb.com messageboards for Troy that whined, "All you girls stay away from our movie. Let us enjoy it for the simple bloodbath that it is." I'm paraphrasing, but that's what it boiled down to.

That's an interesting point, (yours not his!), but I don't entirely agree. My friends have always accused me of having a bit of a 'boyish' taste in films. After Gladiator, for example, they were all talking about Russell Crowe, who I really do not find remotely attractive. But I loved the film. So perhaps what I'm inelegently trying to say is that I'd go see 'Troy' anyway - the eye candy is a bonus, not a reason for going.
In face, I have to confess I was horrified when I first saw the castlist. I was scared they'd never pull it off and it would be too Hollywood and pretty. I'm somewhat reassured now, but there is still a reservation, a part of me that thinks it might have worked better with 'uglier' men.Not that I'm going to keep that opinion after seeing it, I'm sure
Also - I know people who thought the same thing about LOTR: violence, lack of female characters, a cast of gorgeous men...

No need to be jealous at all. I mean yes, Orlando is devastatingly handsome and he has acted in some of the best selling movies in the last three years. He is supposedly engaged to a very pretty girl plus and he got to do some interesting scenes with Diane Kruger and he met Brad Pitt, but so what? No reason to be jealous whatsoever....

Exactly!

So he did propose? Do we know anything more than that rumour he was going to propose at the Empires?

Um..the whole panting after Helen was a bit much, but then again, in light of all the inevitable fangirling of all teh pretty, I guess it's permissable.

I was so, so scared that they'd fuck this movie up, especially after they cast Brad as Achilles. I mean, come on. He didn't exactly scream Ancient Badass Warrior to me. But if his fight scenes are really all that cool... I'm still anticipating major Hollywoodization, but maybe it won't be that bad. *crosses fingers*

Also, the part about "Achilles' whiney cousin"? I wonder if the guy knows the real story behind that. ^_^

i really hope he's wrong. i mean, how can Paris NOT be in the movie? he's by Hector's side all the time! PLUS he gets hot scenes with Helen!!

and i really don't want too much Brad Pitt, but i'm willing to suffer through that for Eric Bana and Orli and Beanie *nods*

I don't know. It was a rumour, but that's it. No proof it was ever going to or did happen. But then it might have done. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm entirely with you on the fear of Hollywoodization! I was actually horrified by the cast list. At least I'm somewhat reassured by the pictures - they've created the look. But what they've actually done to the film we'll have to wait and see.
*crosses fingers too*

The whole 'cousin' thing annoys me. Okay if it made them friends and left it like that, but there was no need for this. I hate that it was 'cleaned' up, especially since we're gonna get a sex scene with Briesies.

I have no particular feelings about Pitt, and to be honest my jury's still out on Bana too (although I'm leaning in his favour due to all the Hector/Paris stuff already springing up).

he's by Hector's side all the time! PLUS he gets hot scenes with Helen!!

Want to swap those names?
yeah, aren't we superficial? How many of us want to see Orlando doing a sex scene (have you seen Midsomer Murders)? Hands up

*snickers* have you read [livejournal.com profile] captaintinuviel's series, Trojan Spoils? you can find it at [livejournal.com profile] xup_to_no_goodx

hell yeah! i went through so much trouble to see it too. i bought it on the sly when i went to London last summer, then i brought it back to America, and carried it to Turkey because i can't play PAL format here. When in Turkey (about a month after i actually bought it), i got up in the middle of the night to watch it...cause like, children can't watch that thing O.o oh the things i do for fandom!

Thanks for the hints - I don't think I have read those...

I hope you weren't too disappointed - that's a lot to do considering the whole murdered-after-twenty-minutes thing. Did you notice the LOTR references? It must just be coincidence though, because of the date. But hey, Orli-arse! And that was the first time I saw the tatoo.

Oh I know. I bet you anything they turn the whole Briesies thing into an actual relationship. Arg. It would be sooo much better if they hadn't "cleaned it up".

i knew Orli wasn't going to be in it much when i bought it, so no, i wasn't too disappointed. It wasn't a bad mystery, actually!

and yeah, the LOTR references made me smile! Lothlorien *giggles* oh no, it wasn't a coincidence. Orli got the role as Legolas before he did Midsomer Murders. To quote him "I walked in and said "I've got Lord of the Rings!" and they said "Do you wanna do Midsomer Murders?" " yeah, so they put those in intentionally *dork*

And that was the first time I saw the tatoo
same here :D

Aha, I had thought it was too much to be coincidence, but I didn't know when the auditions were for LOTR and whether he's know. That explains the 'dwarves and fairies' comment then: it was a dig at Orlando.
