And everything fall into place
Sep. 10th, 2003 06:09 pmI don't write on here much about my original stuff. In the past it has been nonsense about my life and about my fanfiction. But to day I have to share with you the fact that I had a brilliant idea (completely accidentally and in the middle of doing something else so I had nowhere to write it down - of course!) for the longstanding ... I hesitate to use the word 'novel'... piece of extended fiction which I have been writing for over a year. I know my characters very well and have threads of plot which all wind together very nicely, but they have always been somewhat...frayed (to extend the metaphor)... at the edges. Today I realised that they can all be nicely tied up (okay, so the metaphor is, um, 'wearing thin') with the addition of a prologue and epilogue.
So now, it's a story that never actually happens! An explaination would be far too long winded, but basically it's about making decisions and choosing loyalties (and about a rebellion against the throne, pirate mutinies - I was there before PotC!! - murder plots etc) and I decided to explore what would happen if the characters made the opposite decisions. Bingo - I have my plot!!
I realise that most of that made no sense at all to most of you, but I wanted to share my excitement anyway! Perhaps more about the - ick - 'novel' in the future.
Completely unrelated but somehow...related... is the fact that my sister has become obssessed with Pirates of the Caribbean and sadly(?) this is beginning to wear off on me. She has infiltrated my HP and LOTR themed screensavers with all these (delicious) pictures of Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp looking - for lack of a better word - swashbuckling. Now, obviously, this isn't entirely A Bad Thing, and don't get me started on the slashy hints (more than hints!) in this film, but I have to admit to feeling vaguely traitorous. Somehow it seems like having an affair or something - I mean deiviating from my true love and yet...enjoying it...
