Okay, so when you meet someone who has the same name as a character in one of your original fics - and I mean exactly the same name - do you rename the character?
Is this person similar to the character in personality? If not, I say keep the character name especially if it's something unique and you mused it on your own.
They are different. The character is the father of a main character and the guy I met is a twenty-year old student. But I don't think I can keep the name because the combination of first name and surname is unusual. Especially since I had "made up" the surname. It's very strange.
Will he read the story- will anyone read the story that knows him- will there be a possibility he hears about the story and gets cross? Then change, perhaps, your character's name? Otherwise- I should not.
Well I feel I need to now, because the character is influenced by the fact that this guy has the same name. And I have no idea if he'd read it. I've had stuff published and I wouldn't want to not be able to send this to a publisher because of the use of the name, if that makes any sense.
It makes a lot of sense and I thought of adding that to my comment. It struck me when I clicked the post reply button that this can be a text you want/aim to make public and under your own name. Then it makes a lot of sense.
...some brain exercise, then, to change the name and keep the plot?
And a totally random note: the gmail- do you still need invites to get an account or can you just go and grab one?
My sweet, dear plaidwater. I will keep this invite open and call you back- a minute ago I had a mail from another wonderful person in lj-land who offered me an invite. I'll be back. *kisses and hugs you*
I've found that doing just that is the best thing. Usually something better will come when you're least expecting it. Like in the shower, or as you're giving a presentation, or sitting some place where pulling out a notebook and scribbling for hours on end is not an option. *g*
Yes. And he discovered the error of his ways and declared his undying devotion and asked me to marry him and move into the love nest in which he lives with his hunky manly filthy ranger.
Obviously I said yes. So I won't be online much anymore because I'll be so busy having hot, passionate sex.
