I want to say hi and welcome to the people who have friended me recently. I've noticed there have been more in the last couple of weeks. I don't mean to sound antisocial by not automatically friending everyone back, but I struggle with my flist as it is (am I right in thinking there's some way to look at your flist through a filter?).

I don't want you to feel you aren't welcome to read and comment as much as you like just because I haven't immediately friended you in return.

I don't know how many of you are new to the fandom, and how many have just wandered across from mutual friends. Anyway, I guess this post is just to give you an opportunity to say hello if you haven't already.

Or, knowing some of my flist, to say something bizzare and completely unconnected to the post. Because hey, that's always welcome too.

Yes, there's a way to do a filtered flist - I think you have to set up the filter first, though, and decide who will be included and all of that. I think (because I have never actually done this) that you have to go through Manage Friends List in order to do it, and then create the filter, and then you have to go back and apply the filter.

Now here's the question, I find that when I'm beta-ing things, I just CAN'T find them as hot/sexy/much as a turn on as normal (with the notable exception of a wonderful ViggOrliBean that I beated for Razzle while you were away!) ... don't you get that too?

Cold Antiquity was the fic that Razzle and I really got ot be friends over, so it has a special place in my heart. I started betaing from something like chapter seven because she didn't have a beta for the first chapters and I loved it enough to offer when she was looking.

When I beta I read the whole thing through first as if I were just reading a fic. This has the added benefit of allowing me to use my overall knowledge of the fic/chapter when re-reading and commenting and it also means I'm less distracted by sex scenes etc :P
When I read them the second time, actually looking at things like word choice and sentence structure then yes, I certainly find them less "hot". I guess the combination works.
