My week

Right, I promised to tell you about my week and here are the edited highlights. I took loads of pictures but have only posted a select few, obviously.

Thursday
My train left home at two pm and was supposed to be in Euston, London just after six. My friend Laura was meeting me there and were were both going to take the train to visit a friend from Uni who lives in Surrey before taking the last train from his back to Canterbury, where Laura lives. Unfortunately my train was delayed and we didn't ever get to see him.

Just north of Milton Keynes we were told the train would have to slow because there had been a storm. Fine, there had just been a storm. Then we were told we couldn't go above 10 mph or we'd run out of power. Then we were told we couldn't above 4 mph or we'd run out of power. Then we were told we'd had run out of power. The train stopped. We had to wait for the opposite line to be cleared and six trains to pass before they could send up a diesel train to pull us. We did eventually get into Euston three hours late.

Friday
We went into Canterbury itself and did the touristy stuff. All in all we were pretty touristy all week. Anyway, boat trip, Cathedral etc:

Then in the evening we went to a Moroccan restaurant where two of Laura's friends are waitresses. We drank lots of wine and stupidly agreed to learn belly dancing. Yes, stop laughing now.

Laura at the restaurant - pre-dancing.

Saturday
Laura had to work in the morning so I went into Canterbury, she joined me in the afternoon and we went to Dover. Dover is tiny and is a castle and a port. Really.

We did the tours of both. The cliffs have a tunnel system built in the Napoleonic wars and used during WW2.

That evening she had to babysit so we both went and while the children slept we watched Lady Chatterly - all of it at once.

Sunday
We drove to visit another friend in Surrey who was having a BBQ and a bunch of people from college were there. It was lovely. His house and garden looked like something out of a magazine. Gorgeous but I'd be afraid to live there.

Monday
We took the early train into London. Shopped a bit (yes, visited Harrods), went to the National History Museum and to St. Paul's which is currently covered in scaffolding so I'm not going to bother posting a picture.

Then we rode on the London Eye (toursty stuff, remember? I warned you!)which was great fun.

We had groundling tickets for Measure For Measure at the Globe. Fabulous, but I'd advise you to spend the extra money and get a seat because it's a long time to be standing. That atmosphere was brilliant though.

We got the train back to Canterbury, packed and were in bed by 1.30 am with the alarm set for 4 to get up at catch the Eurostar to Paris.

*envies*

I envy you for the London Eye in particular. I've never heard of it. I was in London once, around 1982, and I guess it didn't exist then. It looks cool.

to do this in points or I'll lose all threads. Of thought or something similar. ;)

#1 - The train trip sounds horrible. Did you at least have power (I'm mainly thinking about the lights) while you were waiting? Still, if you wanna be comforted I have horror stories of the Stockholm-Oslo train trip I took.
#2 - The Cathedral! Will it sound silly if I said I missed it? Canterbury was my home away from home the first time I visited England. Oops. I think I typed that with a British accent. ;P
#3 - Belly dancing. Only looks exotic in Europe. The only positive thing about it is it requires a woman to have a little bit extra flesh on.
#4 - The London Eye! *covers eyes and is still afraid to get on* If they want me to pay to put my life in their hands, they should at least have the courtesy of building it in a way which doesn't remind me of a blueprint. Or in other words, I admire your guts. :D
#5 - The Globe, a Shakespeare play at the Globe! *pines*

It was great fun! It was built for the millenium I think. There are great views from the top, although London is actually quite an ugly city.

I've just posted the second part of the spam, which is much prettier.

Thanks, it's nice to be back even if I am leaving again on Monday. And I did have a fabulous time. Especially in Paris, the photos from which I've jsut posted.

Yeah, there were lights, it was just the train itself without power not the carriages.

Canterbury was lovely. Belly dancing was something I'm glad there is no photographic proof of. The Eye and the Globe were so much fun!

We were so good: we didn't hit the pause button.

That one good thing, trust me! *huggles you*

*misses Canterbury* And you sure you haven't done anything even remotely illegal there? Besides the belly dancing of course. ;P

Okay, I'm ready to beat my inner total coward and try the Eye. Where do I sign up?

Dragged my little sister to the Globe. She was nice enough to only let the boredom show on her face. ;) Should definitely revisit with someone as Shakesoholic as I am.

running in that rainstorm...

Actually I had a dream about Sean last night. I dreamed I was in a bar with some of my RL friends and Sean Bean was hitting on me and talking about model trains. Unfortuately I woke up before I'd so much as kissed him.

I'd like my brain more if it had let me have sex with him before I woke up.

Also, just saw King Arthur and, as expected, have rekindled my Ioan love. It didn't take much.

Expect Ioan fic to be written while I'm in America. Probably with Orlando - I'll see.
