I was watching a programme about the position of women in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. A claim was made that women had a higher status in the Roman Empire then in Greece, where a woman was no better then a slave. Now that I have read this I don't believe that women were better of in Rome, obviously they were still considered as chattel.
